Lucky You Films Partners with Goodwill Industries

Charlotte, NC (December 10, 2010)

Lucky You Films, a Charlotte-based film production company, has partnered with Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont (Goodwill) in a fundraising/DVD distribution method. Lucky You Films released its first feature film on DVD, Thursday, November 25, 2010 via its website, The Last Passport. The DVD is now available for the sale price of $15.00 (regular price is $19.95), and customers have half of their sale ($7.50 per DVD) donated to Goodwill.

Co-directed by Kent Smith and David Temple and co-written by both directors along with Alex Bailey, The Last Passport is set in what appears to be an ordinary passport office. While 70 year-old George Miller (Hager) waits, he passes the time by engaging other visitors. During the course of a single day, George challenges a number of people ranging from an arrogant doctor to a gun-toting thug to alter their life paths and imagine a different ending to their stories. Despite the surface differences between age, sex, race, social status, or mental stability, these coincidental encounters become walking reflections of George and mirror his own memories and life journey.

"'It's never been done before' is the driving spirit that got this film made in the first place," says Kent Smith, owner of Lucky You Films and director, writer, and producer of The Last Passport. The Last Passport is a full feature length film that was made from start to finish in 30 days. Everything from writing, pre-production, principal photography, editing, and post-production was all done in one month's time. "Everything went right and everything we needed to make this film appeared. It became obvious that we had created something bigger than any of us could have ever imagined."

In 2009, the film was selected for the Solstice Film Festival in Minnesota where it won the awards for Best Actor and Best Director. The world premiere of The Last Passport was held last winter at The Epicentre in Charlotte, NC, and drew a sold-out audience. Proceeds from the ticket sales to the event went to benefit Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont of the Carolinas.

"Lucky You Films is all about being original in everything we do, right down to how we distribute The Last Passport onto DVD. In a time of economic recession, charitable donations have made a considerable decline so we at Lucky You Films decided to self-distribute the movie, thus allowing us to share our good fortune with other organizations in need. We've dubbed this first-ever DVD distribution endeavor as the Hurricane of Hope and Inspiration, and we encourage everyone to take part."

Lucky You Films granted rights to produce 360

May 6, 2010

Lucky You Films owner Kent Smith has joined with Michael Plumides and David Temple to write '360', a screenplay created and written by Smith and Plumides with Temple involved in revisions. Lucky You Films has recently been granted the rights to produce the film and has plans to start filming in Charlotte, NC sometime in the near future.

'360' is a film about a Rap singer, once on top of a world of fame and fortune, who loses everything in the blink of an eye. He is forced to go back home to work at his parents dry-cleaning business, all the while dreading having to face the people he shoved to the side on his way to the top. Smith, Plumides, and Temple bring sarcasm, wit and humor to a story that can all too often be true.

Kent Smith is an award winning writer, director, and producer with his roots starting in still photography. Smith's latest success came with the film The Last Passport of which he co-wrote, co-produced, and co-directed with David Temple. The film won two awards at the Solstice Film Festival in Minneapolis, MN for Best Directors (Smith and Temple) and Best Actor, which went to their lead Jimmy Hagar. When Smith is not involved in making films he owns and operates an equally successful photography business, which he has been doing business in Charlotte now for over 14 years. He has been featured in over two hundred national magazines for both his commercial and sports work.

Michael Plumides is a writer, and the author of the recent, critically acclaimed indie book, KILL THE MUSIC (2009). Plumides' book has been featured in a number of print and online publications and was heralded as one of the "ten best rock books of 2009" by Fred Mills, the Managing Editor of BLURT Magazine, a highly regarded online music source. Since co-writing '360' Plumides continues with his passion of writing scripts. Among the indie scripts he’s been working on is GHOST TREK, and is now partnered with Bill Walker (www.ss-nc.com) on the film project, GHOST TREK: CONFEDERATE GHOULS, a lampoon of paranormal reality television, to be shot in the environs of North and South Carolina late summer.

David Temple is also an award winning filmmaker. He partnered with Kent Smith in The Last Passport as co-writer, co-producer and co-director. Temple is no stranger to the film word as he saw great success with two other projects he was involved in winning Best Short for both "Rewind" and "Poke the Sleeping Bear" at the Asheville and Solstice Film Festivals, respectively. Temple is currently working on his first novel set to release very soon. He is also an actor and National Voice Over artist. Lucky You Films is thrilled to produce another film in Charlotte, NC with Smith at the helm once again as the director of the film. Smith expects to see a lot of the same faces that were involved in the making of The Last Passport and is looking forward to further success with '360'.
